The Process
The best way to contact me is via E-mail,
which I check daily. I can usually guarantee you a response to
your enquiry within 24 hours, and very often sooner than that.
Let me know what kind of service you want and any deadline that
you have; you may want to include a sample of your work, but
it's not really necessary. I'll get back to you and we can agree
terms, and I will then send you a contract for your approval.
Once I have received the manuscript, I work through it using
the 'Track Changes' function in Word. I send the completed, marked
up manuscript back to you so that you can look at my suggestions,
make changes, accept or reject emendations and respond to any
questions I might have. You then send the manuscript back to
me, and I do a second and final read through in which I incorporate
all of your responses. If the manuscript requires significant
revision after the first read through, I will charge a proofreading
fee. Similarly, I will charge extra for weekend/bank holiday
work.
The following rates are really guidelines:
the exact charges really depend upon you and the exact nature
of the work. I can offer special rates for larger manuscripts,
students and returning clients. I am happy to negotiate a
price fixed at a set limit, or for you to stipulate the number
of hours I am to work, based on the agreed hourly rate. I can
accept payment by sterling cheque or bank draft, or via Paypal.
The first thing to do is to contact me, using the e-mail link
at the bottom of each page of this website. We can then discuss
your requirements and work out a package that suits you.
Please note: I do get very
busy, and I am often booked up 1-2 months in advance. Don't leave
it to the last minute to contact me!
Here, then, are my basic rates (all prices
in pounds sterling).
Proofreading
If your writing is already polished and
simply needs a final check for occasional errors, then you need
a proofreader. This is obviously the fastest service; ideal if
you have a deadline looming, and need a last-minute check for
mistakes.
Cost: £7 per thousand words
Light Editing
In addition to correcting basic errors,
I will make revisions on matters of basic grammar for you, according
to what standard usage requires, and make changes to improve
the clarity of your document.
Cost: £14 per thousand words
Heavy Editing
This is the option to choose if you need
me to take a more active editorial role in rewriting and reworking
your text. As with all of the options, I will make corrections
to your manuscript, incorporating most of my suggested changes
directly into your text. In areas needing further clarity I'll
insert a comment, along with a question or suggestion for you
to take further. This is most likely to appeal to students working
on dissertations or academic papers, i.e. people who want guidance
in addition to simple corrections. Most writers for who English
is a second language fall into this category, and it is important
that we negotiate an acceptable rate for the work that I am required
to do. Please contact me so that we can discuss your precise
requirements.
Cost: £17.50-£22 per 1000
words
Remember: Your individual
circumstances are unique, so please do contact me so that we
can arrange an acceptable fee for the work that you need doing.
